    Molly the dog

Post by Mistystar on Wed Aug 14, 2013 5:06 pm

This is a little late but oh well.

Three and a half years ago, my aunt walked out on my uncle. It was a surprise to everyone, including him. She had been cheating on him and was even dating someone else while she was married. Then she left. She just walked out of the house saying. 'I getting a divorce.' My uncle was heartbroken. He was losing weight and was overall not doing well after that. He forced his way through the divorce process, his best friend being his dog. When I say Best friend, I mean it. They did everything together. Going fishing, she would come. Trip to Canada? Come on, Molly. Hunting? Oh yeah, that dog was a hunting dog. An amazing hunting dog. She knew all the commands, hand directions, everything. One of the best hunting dogs out there, for sure. She would do anything for him.
Last year, Molly was diagnosed with bladder cancer at age 11. She was given about 6 months to live.
My uncle was again, heartbroken. He had pretty much been told he was going to loose his last tie to my aunt, his best friend and his only companion.
Lets just say Molly beat that six months to death with her wagging tail.
She continued to hunt, fish, play, swim and everything she did before.
But she steadily got worse and worse.
It had been over a year, and Molly hurt her back. It became obvious to my uncle that she wasn't living for herself anymore, she was living for him and suffering terribly.
He put her down last week. He asked them to do a house call, but they couldn't.
Once she was gone, he buried her next to his pond with all her toys.
Every time my mom talks to him, even though its been about 5-6 days, he is still crying and says his whole day was thrown off.
He went on his first fishing trip in 12 years without her, and brought in a huge salmon, but he was still really upset. Molly always licked the tail of every single fish he caught, but she wasn't there.
He's in his early 40's and is really really tough, I don't know if he cried this much after my aunt left, but he sobbed for days over Molly.
Thanks, old girl, you were always his best friend.

I also had a dog which unfortunately had to be put down. She died on Wednesday, January 19th, 2011, 3 days after my 9th birthday. As in remembrance of her, I name all of my main characters Nicoal. Nicoal had lived a long happy life of 15 years. </3
