Chapter 1
It was mid-day in Texas. A tumble weed rolled across the bare auburn ground. Horses whinnied in the distances and the clank clank of a horse pulling a carriage. A young 15-year old boy sat on the wooden porch of a house. His dusky brown hair patted down and sweaty. A short brown tunic covered a white shirt. The sleeves of the shirt were torn off so they bared his arms. Thin jeans rolled to the rims of some strong leather boots that were pointed at the tip. Above the heal of the boot was a spur that was covered with sharp, but not too sharp, spikes. The cunning boy watched the carriage role by with unblinking brown eyes.
"Austin!" a voice called inside. The boy huffed, gulped down the last drops of water then hurried inside the house.
"Austin fi-"
"I know mother," he rushed to a table and grabbed a short stick with a long rope attached to the end. Austin hustled out of the house to the farm behind them. A corral was put up in a large circle. Enclosed in the fencing was a pitch black mustang. Austin slipped through the gate and stood forth the black horse. He stood their and waited for the horse to move.
