I stood with my toes right on the edge of the white starting line, with eight other kids lined up on to one side doing the same.
“Take your mark,” the race official yelled.
I crouched down, lining my fingers up with the tip of me big toe.
“GO!” He shouted.
I took off at top speed, cold sweat dripped down my back.
I was in the lead by a lot I was going to win.
Then I remembered the deal with a start. If I win this race my family will be killed, and if I lose I’ll die. Just as I started to slow down something trips me. I land on my face and do a summer salt and land flat on my back.
I opened my eyes and saw a man pointing a gun at me. Then I saw him pull the trigger then I blacked out.
